• All troupes must fill in and complete a competition registration form.

  • Completed registration forms must be sent to

  • Entry fees are to be paid via Credit Card only.

  • All entries and full payment of fees must be received prior to the competition date.

  • MASTERS DANCE AWARDS is a TROUPES ONLY dance competition and event.

  • All troupes must arrive 30 minutes prior to the commencement of their schedule competition time.

  • There will be no refunds given in the event of non-attendance.

  • It is agreed upon entering MDA that all participants, including parents, teachers and spectators, will not hold MOC or directors, employees, or facilities liable for injury sustained, illness, or lost property while in attendance and/or participating in any activity related to the event.

  • Studios will be held responsible for any damages to theatre area/change rooms.

  • Personal belongings, costumes, props and dance clothing left behind at the venue will not be the responsibility of MDA nor MOC.

  • The use of flash photography, professional cameras and filming devices, are strictly prohibited during the competition.

  • Harassment and unruly behaviour will not be tolerated and will result in disqualification and eviction off the competition premises. 

  • MOC reserves the right to disqualify any competitor for any action not in accordance with any of the rules of the MDA.

  • There are capped numbers for this event in each genre and in each age category.

  • MOC reserve the right to cancel any MDA competition.

  • MOC reserve the right to add an additional competition day if deemed necessary.

  • If in the event of a cancellation, all entrants will receive a full refund.

  • This is a drug and alcohol-free event.

  • A running order of each competition section will be emailed to all competitors prior to the competition date.

  • We will run a ‘random selection’ process to decide the running order of the teams/crews in each section.

  • Prizes, giveaways, medals and trophies may only be collected by the winning troupe. If they are not there to collect at the end of the section, prizes, trophies and medals will only be held by MOC.



  • Masters Dance Awards runs ‘average age’ categories.

  • The age of the entrants is taken from the 1st of January 2020.

  • A troupe must consist of a minimum of 5 entrants to a maximum of 30 entrants.

  • A minimum of 75% of the competing troupe must be within the age category they are competing in or younger.

  • The troupe can only have a maximum of 25% which can be older. However, they can only be older up to the next age category. Example: -if you had 12 dancers in your under 14 troupe, 9 dancers would have to be 14 years of age or under with 3 dancers that could be older (15 or 16,). THEY WOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO USE DANCERS OVER THE AGE OF 17 as they would be ahead by two (2) age categories.

  • Proof of age must be presented upon request. The MOC committee reserve the right to withhold any medals or trophies until ID has been sighted.




  • Troupes music must be a minimum of three (3) and a maximum of four (4) minutes – a (10) ten second grace period is permitted at either the minimum or maximum time allowance.

  • Troupes must comply strictly with the time limits stated.  They will not be judged if music has gone over the time limit and they will become accountable for disqualification for any breach of this rule.

  • ALL music must be submitted prior to the event and emailed to

  • Masters Dance Awards accepts MP3 & MP4 formats.

  • Please ensure that music choices are suitable for family audiences.

  • The music being used cannot contain swearing or inappropriate language.

  • You must bring a copy of your music on USB to the event, clearly labelled with your school/troupe name.

  • All music will be played on our competition music system.

  • In the event of faulty music, the troupe can have one more attempt to perform with a back-up copy of music at the end of the section.

  • Any music on USB which is not collected after the competition will be discarded.




  • Concept and costuming are left to the discretion of the troupe entering based on their own interpretation of their piece.

  • Costuming should conform to acceptable standards of morality and good conduct.

  • Choreography, music, costumes, and props should be consistent with the concept of the chosen theme.

  • Props are permitted providing they are not dangerous.

  • All props must be checked and approved by MDA organisers prior to the event.

  • The transportation, set-up and removal of props are the sole responsibility of the troupe using them.

  • If you are utilising props in your choreography, please make sure your performers in the competition area can remove them immediately after use.

  • Sharp objects like actual knives and spears, intoxicating fumes, oil, and inflammable materials cannot be used as props in order to adhere to Health & Safety guidelines and to avoid accidents during the performance. Violation of this provision will mean disqualification of the group.
